Google has its own app called Find My Device, originally designed to locate Android devices. During the 2023 Google I/O event, the company announced plans to launch a new version this summer, enabling users to locate missing items through new third-party Bluetooth trackers by leveraging the network of over 1 billion Android devices
However, in July, Google decided to delay the launch to prioritize user safety and privacy. They need more time to work together with Apple on finalizing specifications for joint unwanted tracker alerts.
According to a reliable leaker Kamila Wojciechowska, Google is developing its own AirTag-like tracker, codenamed “grogu,” created by the Nest team. It is expected to support UWB (Ultra Wideband) and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) for precise location tracking.
In addition, third-party brands like Tile and Chipolo are already in the process of developing new trackers that are compliant with the Find My Device Network.
However, there is still no official announcement about the exact launch date for the new Find My Device, and details regarding the process for joining the Find My Device program. But we hope it will happen sooner rather than later.
