Qi2, the latest wireless charging standard unveiled by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) at the 2023 CES show, includes Apple’s MagSafe tech and supports 15W wireless charging for any Qi2-certified accessory.
TechInsights predicts that the launch of Qi2 will propel Qi smartphones back into a leading market position, projecting an impressive 82.60% market share by 2027—a significant increase from the 29.5% market share in 2023.
Compared to the previous standard, Qi2 introduces the Magnetic Alignment method, making MagSafe technology available not only to Apple but also to other manufacturers. It contributes to improved charging efficiency, offering a more enjoyable experience.
Moreover, Qi2 accessories can deliver 15W wireless fast charging for iPhone 15 models in both MPP and EPP modes, without requiring Apple MFM certification and associated fees. They are also expected to be more affordable, making them an ideal choice for retailers and importers.
As of now, the iPhone 15 is the first Qi2 smartphone, and Qi2-certified accessories are not yet available. However, certification test instructions are expected to be released this month.
